Bolton Community 2006: UK Schools are facilitating International Collaboration (Jan - April 2006)

Initiated by 3 primary schools in Bolton and Bolton Local Education Authority, Bolton Community has launched an international collaboration project on ˇ§Festivals and Celebration in World major Religionsˇ¨ among schools in Bolton, Singapore and Hong Kong.  Primary 5/6 students from 8 schools (3 from Bolton, 4 from Singapore and 1 from Hong Kong) will collaborate in KC from Jan ˇV April 2006.  Facilitated by teachers from UK, Singapore, Hong Kong and New York, Students are actively collaborating to gain deeper understanding of the topics from Western and Oriental viewpoints.  Summary conference will be held in Bolton to more than 30 schools.

3-I Project Learning: Collaboration among Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Shunde, Suzhou and Hong Kong Schools (9/2005-8/2006)  http://www.3iproject.net/2005

To raise the standard of project-based learning to international standard and to foster the culture of international collaboration in primary education, this 3I Project 2005 was honored to be funded by Quality Education Fund (QEF) of Hong Kong Education and Manpower Bureau.

The Global Chinese Society for Computers in Education (GCSCE) and National Research Center for Computer in Education (NRCCE) of China Ministry of Education have jointly organized this 3I project involving the collaboration among primary schools from Beijing (4 schools), Qingdao (10), TianJin (10), Shunde (13), Suzhou (10) and Hong Kong (32).

More than 600 teachers in Hong Kong and China were trained on constructive approach in project-based learning and use of KC.  Teachers from Hong Kong have a chance to visit Chinese schools in Sep 2006.

Accredited by Chinese Ministry of Education as key national project, a series of 13 articles (see 1st article at http://www.learningexpert.net/chris/Publication/12-2005.pdf ) will be published on the official journal on project-based learning. These articles explain various aspects of the project (ranging from learning theories, pedagogies, organization, teacher training, curriculum design, implementation, facilitation etc) in great details.

New York City region 4 has launched a one-year project-based learning in Social Study and Geography grade 6-8 classes (Feb 2006), USA

Organized by the Region 4 Education Department, 6 schools in New York City region 4 have launched a one-year project-based learning in Social Study and geography after a 2-day teacher training on KC, thinking skills, and inquiry-based learning. Around 30 teachers from elementary, middle and high schools were trained. 

As part of the training, teachers have a chance to plan and integrate KC to their curriculum.  Each school has to select a country with specific areas to study and to arrange inter-school collaboration to share and compare findings.

For Geography classes, students will be investigating different areas in the country and do an inter-school collaboration to share the results.

3-I International Conference: Collaboration among Hong Kong, Beijing and Qingdao Primary Schools (May 28, 2005), The Chinese University of HK

Approved by National Research Center for Computer Education (NRCCE) of China Education Department as key national development project, 13 Primary schools from Beijing, Qingdao and Hong Kong with 1,500 P5 students collaborating from 11/2004-7/2005 to investigate issues in Environment Protection.  Teachers and students from 3 places will be presenting their findings and learning experiences.  Dr Miao will speak on the impact and values of 3-I Project to Chinese education.  Dr. Quek will speak on ICT development in Singapore, and Dr. Chris Tan will speak on international collaboration in primary education.  www.3iproject.net/chinahk

Enhancing Learning and Teaching with ICT (Nov 10 and 11, 2004)

Liverpool, UK

Organized by Liverpool LEA for head teachers and educators from over 200 schools in Liverpool, Dr. Tan will introduce how KC is integrated with project learning with models of inter-school and international collaboration. Besides speaking at the seminar, few school teachers will have chance to use KC in preparation for their collaboration with Schools in Hong Kong.

 

3-I International Conference for Project Learning in Primary Education (Jun 1, 2004)

Summary for 3-I (Interdisciplinary, Inter-school and International) Project Learning, Hong Kong

Funded by QEF of HK SAR government, 3-I (Interdisciplinary, Inter-school and International) Project Learning (www.3iproject.net) , represents an innovative landmark of IT in Education. A total of 750 primary 5 students and 24 teachers from 4 schools in Hong Kong have collaborated in 3-I manner to investigate over 25 issues in the area of environmental protection. Besides having a chance to learn from our primary students their perception on environmental issues, famous local and international educators to speak to us on use of IT in project work.

Bolton ICT Conference 2004 (March 11, 2004)

Reebok Stadium, Bolton, Manchester, UK

Organized by Bolton LEA for head teachers and educators from over 100 schools in Bolton, KC was introduced with the learning theories to demonstrate how KC can facilitate students in their collaborative learning and teachers in their facilitation. International collaboration between learners in Bolton and Hong Kong will be established in year 2004.

KC integration with HK Primary Curriculum General Studies Launch (Feb 14, 2004)

Modern Education Research Society., Ltd (Hong Kong) has adopted KC to promote project work in their series of book called "21st Century Modern Project Learning" for primary education in Hong Kong.  The launch attracted more then 260 teachers and principals.
